Houston, We Have a Problem

by Milehimama on August 26, 2009

in Uncategorized

I’m having internet and connectivity problems, so blogging’ s been light this week.

I have had it with Comcast.  They are unreliable (and when you work from home online, unreliability becomes a crisis!)

I might be stuck with them.  It seems that cable TV and cable internet providers are few and far between in my neck of the woods.

Who do you use, and how much do you pay?

We have basic digital cable (100 channels, but not HBO, Starz, or other premium channels) and a DVR.  LOVE LOVE LOVE the DVR!

I have a home phone.  Don’t really care about bells and whistles there, although Caller ID is nice.

But I depend on my high speed internet.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

(HATE DirecTV.  It never worked during heavy rains and storms – when I REALLY wanted to watch the weather channel or find something for the kids to watch when they couldn’t go outside!)

We have AT&T for home phone and internet. I have a long distance plan I can call anywhere in US for one price. My internet and phone bill comes as one. I pay 90 a month. If we have problems with internet they are very helpful. Have never had a problem with there phone service.

We had Comcast till Time Warner took over. We miss Comcast if that helps. LOL

Good Luck

Did you post or FB about a book that you were reading about how food is processed in America and how to take steps to rid it from your house (slowly, very slowly because I like my cheetos)? I can’t seem to find it on here and wanted to check it out from the library.
I remember it was written by a lady.

Yes, it was “The Unhealthy Truth” by Robyn O’Brien. It was actually about allergies, hidden allergens in foods, truth in labeling, dangers of GMO, and so on.

In my personal experience, I’ve found you only have to exercise willpower in one place – the grocery store. Then the not eating the problem food at home takes care of itself!

Robyn O’Brien has a website, too: http://www.allergykids.com

We’ve used Bellsouth DSL for over two years and have been very happy with it. I don’t know if it would be an option where you’re at or not. In all this time, I’ve only had it go down twice I think.

That’s my problem – the phone keeps going out.

When I complained the LAST time, the Comcast rep helpfully told me I needed to get a cell phone in case that happened again.
Sorry, I need a CELL PHONE to back up my home phone because they can’t guarantee service???

Can I add that I live in town, not out in the country somewhere?

Sounds like you are having a frustrating time indeed. We use the whole roadrunner thing with Time Warner and are okay with it. I cannot say that I would highly recommend them, but they have been good about quickly fixing the problems that do crop up.

Unfortunately, it seems that Comcast has a lock on our area. Time-Warner isn’t available. Unless I go with DishNetwork or DirecTV they’re my only option for cable, I think.

I telecommute (uptime is extremely important!), and we originally used Qwest DSL after moving to Colorado. Although they were very nice, the service was absolutely unreliable, and I would frequently have hours of downtime. Even they finally admitted that it just wasn’t working for me and let me out of my contract. We switched to Comcast, and it has been really good. We have internet, phone and TV. We are currently paying around $160/month, but that includes some HD stuff and channels that we don’t actually need. The unlimited long distance is nice for me, because I spend hours on the phone long distance for work. I’m sorry your Comcast experience has been bad – they have been very helpful any time I have experienced any sort of issue.

I had Comcast for years in Denver and loved it.

It just seems that my particular area of Houston is always having technical issues. I will admit that I have a killer deal – I pay $89.99 for 100 TV channels, high speed internet with power boost, phone with caller ID, voicemail, etc. plus another $10 for the DVR. Of course, after taxes my bill is $114.

Mostly, it’s the phone part we have problems with.

I use verizon it is 60.00 a month but now they have some that are not as much. it is great service!! but i dont work from home i use mine for homeschool, and surfing. so for you it may be different. you can check other cellular plans for the best price. but i will say that verizion has had great customer service too.

I would like to look into this and correct the problem. Please send me the phone number on the account so that I can assist in resolving the problem.

Thank you,

We use Bellsouth/ATT DSL and are very happy with it. We’ve used it for around 5-6 years.
