One odd thing I never thought I’d be doing as a stay at home mom was organizing and cleaning learning spaces. That’s what we’re doing this week, though. It seems I get dissatisfied every year before school starts, as though if I could just find the perfect place for the desk everything else will fall into place and a beautiful room will automatically translate into beautiful attitudes.
What weird and wonderful learning space do you have in your home?
This isn’t just for homeschoolers. Please share your learning spaces! Maybe it’s your office. Maybe it’s where you’ve set up a homework station. Maybe it’s someplace in your home where you read and share and discover. Everyone has one of these places, and I’d love to see yours! And steal your organization ideas. I have a hidden agenda, here.
I’m in the process of revamping, reconfiguring, and weeding out our school room/computer room. Today I spent two hours filing. This is because I just throw stuff in a big file to be dealt with later. Unfortunately, my “pile’ was a 18 gallon Rubbermaid tote. And my pile also included ALL of our EOB’s from the insurance company for 2009 – the year we had a baby with a medical problem and my son was hit by a car. Ahem. I might have just left them in the envelope, unopened, this entire time. Because I had a billing dispute, I opened them all to find the ONE paper I needed. This is why I have the words “Disorganized” and “Discombobulated” on my header, y’all. It’s all about transparency here!
If you show me yours, I’ll show you mine! When I’m done, that is.
Just put up a post, link to me, and then leave your URL in LinkyTools!

Ummmmm, isn’t this supposed to be a Thursday thing? I have my plan for TOMORROW! Well, tomorrow is in 28 minutes… but still.
Awww… I have a new blog on Tumblr and I had a (short) post about a gross mommy-moment, perfect for your meme…. but it’s not about learning spaces! I posted it anyway. So there.
I’m working on my classroom at the moment. It is a hot mess and needs much love and attention. I get so excited to make everything just so this time of year. I will be blogging about our classroom and our plans for the new year but that probably won’t happen for a few weeks. I’ll be sure to let you know when I do. I’ll be looking forward to pictures of yours. Tuesday I cleaned and organized my desk – what a job! I’ll tweet you a picture later if I remember.
Funny you should bring up the learning spaces issue… I have been trying to figure out how to centralize ours a bit more since we currently have about four popular areas for our bunch and I would like to return our living room to it’s former company room status!
I have been rearranging the furniture in my house for over a month. this is due to the fact that I am a big procrastinator and some of the furniture like the piano is too heavy to move without one of DHs buddies and we had to coordinate time when they could come over. I am almost done but realized a few things in the process. first our dining room is entirely too small to fit our family of five in. Our house was built in the late forties probably for a newly wed couple and is perfect for a family with one child. its crowded with two children and ridiculous for three. So DH and I must always eat on the couch. I am putting a small table in the dining room for the children and added a coffee table in front of the couch. Second. Since the kids room is over crowded with bunkbeds and dressers there isnt much room for toys. I have created a play area in the living room for the toys. I placed a wooden bench there to act as a kitchen workspace/table and store things underneath in baskets. I have one giant basket for all shoes in the house and color coordinated laundry basket in this area as well seeing as my children shed their clothes without discrimination of the room the happen to be in. having a hamper in a central location of the house helps quite a bit. I also put diapers and wipes in the drawers of our tv stand where baby can fetch them herself. I have room for one bookshelf where I put childrens books near the bottom so children can reach easily. I plan on hanging several educational poster that came with some DK books around the play area. (I love DK books). I also seperated the play area with a ten dollar rug from IKEA. it~s important to note that this area cannot be seen from the front door because the couch blocks the view which means when mormons a JWs come to the door they get the false impression that I am a halfway decent house keeper.
