    Julia is One!

Julianna is one year old today!  Hard to believe it was a year ago that her Daddy had to catch her in the bathroom. She is still a little nursing piglet.  She wears a size 5 shoe.  Her favorite game is peek-a-boo, and her favorite toy is a ball.  Her favorite food ...

Last year, we moved our school room from the little office/den to the family room.  When we ditched the office, we ditched the white board. A year later, I finally got a clue and realized that I could reclaim this space for a home office instead of wasting it on mere ...

    The Healthy Indian Diet

I've been more and more interested in trying and making Indian food lately.  I make Mark Bittman's dal and even the neighbor kids like it.  But I don't know much about the cuisine and all of the recipes I've cooked actually come from old white guys (Bittman, and Andrew Weil.) Indian ...

    Christmas Gifts for Active Kids

It's time for toy shopping. I'm not a big fan of toys that do only one thing, make a lot of electronic noises, and limit the imagination.  I want toys that inspire the mind and encourage the kids to be active; open ended toys that can be played with by children ...

Mama Says Randomness Roundup

in Mama Says Randomness,Schooling

  • If your son doesn’t like spelling and really struggles with a particular word, make that word the password for the computer.  He’ll memorize it in no time flat.
  • I like to make a fruit platter for Christmas morning.  Easy and make ahead.  And we always have star fruit (carambola).  So festive!
  • We bought our tires at PepBoys, because they had a great sale.  PepBoys just keeps on giving!  We got a rebate in the mail for one tire free.  They fixed our flat for free.  Now they email me to tell me I have $15 PepBoy reward.  We need a new jack because the old one broke when we had the aforementioned flat tire.  Guess what I’ll be buying with my reward card?
  • I bought some diaper covers off eBay – Happy Heinies LeakFree.  $39 for TEN covers.  I LOVE them, they are the best!  They dry so easily, go on easily, and are so cute.  They really are just like a disposable if you prestuff them.
  • I just thought I’d pop a note on my blog about them because when I was considering the purchase, I googled my little heart out and could only find one review.  Maybe I’ll write up a full post about them.  The tag says Kawaii and they are one-size diaper covers (I provide my own inserts)
  • I just found out a “Gentlemen’s Retreat” is opening across the street from my Kroger store, about a 1/4 mile from my house.  I don’t live inside city limits, though our area is urbanized.  What a misnomer – I guarantee there are no gentlemen in attendance.

They have plenty of those type of ” gentlemen clubs” in Savannah. In fact, they even have ads for them on radio stations that are supposed to be “family friendly”.

“Kawaii” is Japanese for “cute.”

We just had a Hooter’s open up across from our local Super Walmart. My 11 year old son says “What’s a hooter?”

I told him it was an owl themed restaurant. He said, “Cool, can we go there sometime?” I just gave him a flat “NO” and said it was a place only for college guys.

Whaaaa? Family friendly gentlemen’s clubs? What- do they have day care rooms for the kids and blindfolds for the wives??
