    Julia is One!

Julianna is one year old today!  Hard to believe it was a year ago that her Daddy had to catch her in the bathroom. She is still a little nursing piglet.  She wears a size 5 shoe.  Her favorite game is peek-a-boo, and her favorite toy is a ball.  Her favorite food ...

    The Healthy Indian Diet

I've been more and more interested in trying and making Indian food lately.  I make Mark Bittman's dal and even the neighbor kids like it.  But I don't know much about the cuisine and all of the recipes I've cooked actually come from old white guys (Bittman, and Andrew Weil.) Indian ...

    Christmas Gifts for Active Kids

It's time for toy shopping. I'm not a big fan of toys that do only one thing, make a lot of electronic noises, and limit the imagination.  I want toys that inspire the mind and encourage the kids to be active; open ended toys that can be played with by children ...

Nobel Naughtiness

by Milehimama on October 14, 2009

in Politicking

We don’t have cable anymore, but I understand Glenn Beck has mentioned that Obama’s Nobel may be unconstitutional.  I got the tip off from Kathy Shaidle.

(But how could that be?  Obama was a professor of constitutional law at one point, was he not?)

Anyway, I wrote it up on my Examiner.com site.

Nobel Peace Prize unconstitutional?

Wow–this is really quite interesting. I had no idea…

Article 1, Section 9:

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

Theodore Roosevelt (president 1901-1909) received the prize in 1906.

Woodrow Wilson (president 1913-1921) received the prize in 1919.

Charles Gates Dawes (Vice-president 1924-1928) received the prize in 1925.

Jimmy Carter (former president) received the award in 2002. OK, I’ll grant you that he wasn’t president at the time.

There have been various other people who could be regarded as “holding any Office of Profit or Trust under [the United States]” who have been awarded the prize as well, so Obama is not the first.

Is the Nobel Prize Committee classed as an agent of a foreign state for these purposes?

You seem like a nice lady. It makes me sad to read your political views. If the rest of the world sees President Obama as a force for peace, then that can only be a good thing for our country.
It is pretty amazing we elected an African American with a name like Barack Hussein Obama, given our history. I think America managed to delight and amaze the rest of the world. Why attack President Obama at this moment? What possible good comes out of that?

Milehimama October 18, 2009 at 11:13 pm

I have no problem with Obama’s melanin count or name.

I have a problem with the way he is worming the federal government into every aspect of our lives and pretending to be a friend of the poor when he’s not. I have a problem with him accepting the peace prize when he so vocally stands up for the “right” to do the worst kind of violence to babies. Burning, drawing and quartering, and giving lethal injections to the smallest, most vulnerable Americans, unborn babies, is evil of the worst kind and it’s an evil thing to promote and defend those actions.

And, I really don’t think the rest of the world sees him as a force for peace, which is why his prize was met with disbelief and mockery. I’m not sure the rest of the world was particularly delighted – or disheartened- at his election. I mean, does the average American care who the Prime Minister is or even know who’s in charge of say, Spain, Italy, or Greece? We are so centric here, we imagine the world just revolves around America when it doesn’t.

Here is a cogent article on the Nobel given Obama:
