    Julia is One!

Julianna is one year old today!  Hard to believe it was a year ago that her Daddy had to catch her in the bathroom. She is still a little nursing piglet.  She wears a size 5 shoe.  Her favorite game is peek-a-boo, and her favorite toy is a ball.  Her favorite food ...

    The Healthy Indian Diet

I've been more and more interested in trying and making Indian food lately.  I make Mark Bittman's dal and even the neighbor kids like it.  But I don't know much about the cuisine and all of the recipes I've cooked actually come from old white guys (Bittman, and Andrew Weil.) Indian ...

It's time for toy shopping. I'm not a big fan of toys that do only one thing, make a lot of electronic noises, and limit the imagination.  I want toys that inspire the mind and encourage the kids to be active; open ended toys that can be played with by children ...

Saving Not Spending, day 4 and Glamour of a SAHMer

by Milehimama on July 29, 2010

in Glamour of a SAHMer,Pinching Pennies

Well, first I must admit that I failed.  On Wednesday night I was attending aMom mixer with the homeschool groupbut had some kinks in the plan (husband home sick from work, and uh, failure to plan.  My constant companion is good old Failure to Plan.) So I spent $5.40 at Boston Market to grab a quick bite to eat before my meeting.

Sigh.

On the other hand, I returned some items to Target so money wise, I have more in my pocketbook!  I had bought a couple of things for the home and a big box of diapers, but upon further reflection, decided that what we had was good enough.

We cloth diaper Baby A, more or less.  I was using disposables for when we were out and about.  Too many times I had left a plastic bag of wet clothies in the van.  Ten people arriving home after an adventure is quite a production and I rarely remember to bring everything in right away.  Soiled diaper + Texas sun + a few days = totally worth buying disposables.

And then I found that using a disposable at night helped Baby A sleep longer (and I’m all about the baby sleeping through the night.)  And then, because I’m lazy, disposables crept up into everyday use.

After committing to two weeks of no spending, I discovered that we had about 10 disposable diapers left.  So I’m hoarding them for overnight use and we’re back in clothies.  But disposable wipies?  Totally worth it, IMO.

Do you change your routine in order to avoid a trip to the store?

As moms, we do some strange things, including fishing days old diapers out of plastic sacs and washing them (twice for good measure!)
