    Julia is One!

Julianna is one year old today!  Hard to believe it was a year ago that her Daddy had to catch her in the bathroom. She is still a little nursing piglet.  She wears a size 5 shoe.  Her favorite game is peek-a-boo, and her favorite toy is a ball.  Her favorite food ...

    How To Clean a Whiteboard

Last year, we moved our school room from the little office/den to the family room.  When we ditched the office, we ditched the white board. A year later, I finally got a clue and realized that I could reclaim this space for a home office instead of wasting it on mere ...

    The Healthy Indian Diet

I've been more and more interested in trying and making Indian food lately.  I make Mark Bittman's dal and even the neighbor kids like it.  But I don't know much about the cuisine and all of the recipes I've cooked actually come from old white guys (Bittman, and Andrew Weil.) Indian ...

    Christmas Gifts for Active Kids

It's time for toy shopping. I'm not a big fan of toys that do only one thing, make a lot of electronic noises, and limit the imagination.  I want toys that inspire the mind and encourage the kids to be active; open ended toys that can be played with by children ...

Oh Dear. Total FAIL

by Milehimama on August 2, 2010

in Pinching Pennies

So, how’s day 9 of the no spend week going?  Total FAIL.

You see, I’ve discovered that I can get half of Mr R’s school supply list for nickels and dimes if I hit Office Max before they sell out.  Those savings are just too good to pass up in the name of blogging.  Sorry, peeps.  I’ve been lured by the siren song of five cent rulers and ten cent pencils.  Staples has $1 packs of dry erase markers, one of our biggest schooling expenses because I use page protectors.

Also, Miss E dropped our only working phone into a pan of water.  While it’s been peaceful without the phone ringing, I’ve started getting panicked emails from relatives asking if we’ve all died since we’re not answering the phone.  And I cannot forward phone calls to my cell phone unless I arrange it from my home phone.

On Sunday I went shopping and got almost only WIC items, but husband dear begged for mercy and I bought him some diet Dr. Pepper.  And a chocolate Coke from Sonic’s happy hour, because it was so hot yesterday that the AC didn’t start blowing cold air until 10 minutes into my trip.  Sigh.

If you were looking for perfection, well, that’s a different blog.

If you’re looking for me, I’ll be at Office Max and Staples.

Dear MileHiMama, I wanted to post a link to a very, very tragic news story I just read (concerning infanticide, so not a kid-friendly link bc of the serious subject matter). I cried when I read this and I know that you and many of your readers here will join me in offering up prayers for this woman’s children and husband, who were completely shocked: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/world/dominique-cottrez-45-admits-suffocating-then-burying-eight-babies/story-e6frev00-1225898997638

LOL! I wouldn’t worry too much about the Fail. I am very anti-WalMart. But recently their .16 cent crayons, glue and glue sticks lured me in. We all have our price. .16 cents apparently is mine! :)

I would have caved for cheap school supplies, too. Cheap is practically this tightwad’s love language!

Better to buy it really cheap than to have to pay full pop.

For dry erase markers, you could try King Dollar if they have one near you. They usually have dry erase markers for $1.09.

oh the glamour… I’d like to say I’m joining you on this one but I just can’t. I’m too weak. :)
