My father in law gave me his old VitaMix blender one year for my birthday. Can I just say, that thing is awesome? I use it to grind dried rice into flour for blender batter waffles and it doesn’t flinch.
However, it does not disassemble. You can’t unscrew the blades and cleaning the bottom of pitcher- full of sharp metallic objects – is not my idea of fun.
The best way to clean it? Let the machine do the work. Immediately after using it, rinse the pitcher and squirt some dish soap in it. Fill about 1/4 full with hot water, slap it on the base, and let her rip. The mixer will clean itself!

Yep, I love our vitamix and this is how I clean it also.
My only concern with this is that it would still potentially leave a “biofilm” of bacteria. You might consider using a sanitizer of some kind every so often. A weak chlorine bleach solution would work. I found an article from Cook’s Illustrated that suggests that a vinegar solution would do the job just as well. Either way, be sure to rinse it well afterward to keep the blades from rusting. (Both bleach and vinegar will ruin your blades if you don’t rinse!)
By the way, dishwashers get rid of biofilms without scrubbing or sanitizers, but I think the harsher detergents and high temperatures are what does it. Dishwashers sanitize your stuff pretty effectively.
Yep. That’s how I do it, too (only I haven’t been blessed with a Vitamix).
I’ve just finished reading Green for Life and they don’t sell vitamix blenders in the uk. I need an equivalent blender to make my green smoothies.
