    Julia is One!

Julianna is one year old today!  Hard to believe it was a year ago that her Daddy had to catch her in the bathroom. She is still a little nursing piglet.  She wears a size 5 shoe.  Her favorite game is peek-a-boo, and her favorite toy is a ball.  Her favorite food ...

    How To Clean a Whiteboard

Last year, we moved our school room from the little office/den to the family room.  When we ditched the office, we ditched the white board. A year later, I finally got a clue and realized that I could reclaim this space for a home office instead of wasting it on mere ...

    The Healthy Indian Diet

I've been more and more interested in trying and making Indian food lately.  I make Mark Bittman's dal and even the neighbor kids like it.  But I don't know much about the cuisine and all of the recipes I've cooked actually come from old white guys (Bittman, and Andrew Weil.) Indian ...

    Christmas Gifts for Active Kids

It's time for toy shopping. I'm not a big fan of toys that do only one thing, make a lot of electronic noises, and limit the imagination.  I want toys that inspire the mind and encourage the kids to be active; open ended toys that can be played with by children ...

Happy Quarter Century

by Milehimama on May 11, 2010

in Mama Says Randomness

My oldest little sister (when you have a big family, you have lots of convoluted relations) is

TWENTY FIVE

today!

Happy Birthday Rosy!

A recap of the year you were born:

Stamps cost 20 cents.

Ronald Reagan was president, and he was sworn in for his second term in 1985.

Mikhail Gorbachev becomes leader of the USSR.

Amadeus wins the Oscar for Best Picture.

What’s Love Got to Do With It was album of the year.

All was not good in 1985

We learn of the Infamous Hole In The Ozone Layer.  AquaNet will never be the same.

New Coke.  Enough said.

No homage to 1985 would be complete without this!  This is the “new” version.

Some personal highlights:

When you were 2, we moved to Colorado.  You got to eat your own mini-box of Cheerios, incurring the ire of the sibs.

One day, you decided to take a walk – up the busy road with the yellow stripe down the middle.  The police brought you home.

When you were 3, we moved to house we all grew up in, more or less.

I can’t believe you talked me into taking you to a Backstreet Boys concert.  Was it Backstreet Boys?  I don’t remember.  All those boy bands kind of blur together in an angsty fog.

I remember that walk ending with the cops taking me home. I was angry because you and our older sister got to go out -selling Girl Scout cookies if I remember- and I didn’t get to go out. And thanks again for going to that concert with us – we had infinitely more fun with a laid-back chaperone than we would have with one more strict!

:-)

Rosy May 12, 2010 at 4:47 pm
