Our family receives WIC, and they’ve decided that Baby A gets 95 jars of baby food per month. It’s been years since I’ve fed any of my babies from a jar, but we’ll give it a valiant effort. She eats about 3-4 bites of meat and as much fruit as we’ll give her.
We’ve used up 4 jars. It’s the 15th of the month. On February 1, she’ll get ANOTHER 95 jars! They’ll last until she’s potty trained!

Husband dear has been working an insane amount of hours. We reported the income to the Food Stamp people, who naturally entered things incorrectly, didn’t return a phone call, then sent us three identical letters. It’s worked out now, I hope. I was surprised to find out that even though husband dear is making more per week than at his previous job, we still qualify. Our food stamp allotment is now $662 a month – 50% more than I spent from January to September. Good thing, because the meat without antibiotics, hormones, and other adulterants is a lot more expensive.

If you are in Houston and conservative, there is a new site I put together for the local Tea Party group.
It’s still very much in progress, but I’m hoping to make it a clearinghouse for information relevant to NW Houston and a place to collate all the different activities. The Tea Party movement is very, very grassroots and it seems everyone has started a niche forum or site.
If you are in Houston, send me any links, meeting info, or more and I’ll put it up.

Holly Pierlot (A Mother’s Rule of Life) had a nice post the other day that I felt highlighted a major difference between the Catholic view of marriage and the very Fundamentalist view seen in so many Christian homemaking books.
I have read in some books that if a husband tells his wife to do something, and it’s a sin, well, she must obey and her sin will be imputed onto her husband. Because the wife must always be submissive. (Yeah, I’m talking to you, Debi Pearl.)

Speaking of homemaking books, I am reading the anti-hospitality book, I Like You by Amy Sedaris. It’s interesting, dorky, and a giggle, but definitely not what I thought it would be when I ordered it off the bargain bin rack at BarnesandNoble.com.
What homemaking books have you enjoyed?

The FBI is playing the Playstation 3 on the taxpayer’s dime. But it’s not frivolous, they are using it to catch child molesters! I just thought it was interesting that the Sony PS3 was better and cheaper than the standard technology.

Speaking of FBI, my husband and I have really been enjoying Fringe. We’re still working our way through season 1 but I think it’s really well written. I love that the main character, a blonde woman, is not a Barbie. She acts like an FBI agent. She pulls her hair back in a ponytail when going on a raid and doesn’t totter about in high heels. Her clothes are boring and professional and she’s not falling out of them.
It’s definitely a show for adults, though.

My husband helped develop some of the stuff they are using on the PS3 back during his Fed days. He was actually one of the first to point out to his agency how much cheaper it is.
It isn’t just the FBI and it isn’t just child molesters. But man sometimes I get all heartwarming when i read about things like that and proud at my husband! (who isn’t with the feds anymore but is private sector doing similar things)
I love fringe. I also am so there on the view of marraige. Not a Catholic, very conservative Christian, and it amazes me that they ignore they if you won’t eat then starve verses, the verses condemn Christians for not working but sitting and waiting for heaven or trying to blame others for their sins.
95 jars is a lot! The applesauce and some other fruits are great to use in baking as a substitution for some/all of the oil. Don’t they have a fairly good shelf life?
Funny story…when my husband was single, there was one particular baby food dessert that he would buy for himself and eat out of the jar! Ha! I wish I could remember which one it was.
The Hawaiian dessert is good! In our case, we get plain fruit and veggies (no dinners, cereals, etc.) and plain meat.
I LOVE FRINGE! You know the actor who plays Walter, John Noble, is also the character Denethor in Lord of the Rings, Return of the King? Yeah, the crazy old guy who rules over Gondor and dies in a fiery falling death?
Interesting to see how well he can play such vastly different characters!
95 jars a month – that’s crazy I thought they were meant to be improving nutrition with WIC. We never used a single jar of baby food because we did Baby Led Weaning. (Which is Baby Led Solids in American.)
The second paragraph of #4 is one of my pet hates. It really bugs me when someone writes on their blog that they have to do such and such even though they don’t agree that it is right because their husband says so.
That’s a lot of baby food!
Maybe you could donate some of it to a local women’s shelter.
Milehi hope your son is feeling better. I’m going to check out your tea party site. I’ve been working for Scott Brown here in MA and haven’t had a lot of extra time. Pumped for Tuesday’s election!
I’ve been wanting Amy Sedaris’ book. At our house we have remote control wars because Fringe nd The Office come on at the same time. I love them both. Whatever you end up dong with the baby food-save the jars! Oh the things you can do with them!
I’ll send it to you when I’m done. It’s kind of a mockery of 70′s style homemaking books. It does have recipes but the text is definitely satire!
Some jars, yes, but 95!!!!! jars will take up too much space! And I’ll get another 95 in two weeks!
Our family was playing Little Big Planet once and someone came through the connection and sprayed a dirty picture of a woman. Thankfully my husband was the one playing and caught it before the children looked up and saw. Hubby modified our settings so no one could get through any longer. It just shocked me that people stoop to such levels.
I only watched one episode of Fringe. I love Criminal Minds though. The show stays relatively clean unlike CSI who shows almost nudity at what seems like every turn.
I didn’t realize Mrs. Pearl promoted complete submission. I am too mouthy to submit completely to my husband. My husband has said that he wouldn’t want complete submission. He wants a wife, not a doormat. I still read No Greater Joy magazine though. Take the good, leave the bad!
I have strong views on the Pearls. It is difficult to take the good when the whole worldview borders on the bad. The Pearl’s view of children is directly opposite of my view of children. I have a few of the Pearl’s books. I don’t agree with spanking a 4 month old, and I think shoving your little ones into a pond of water to teach them a lesson is abusive.
