Hope and pray that Obamacare does not stand. I have Medicaid, another government run healthcare program, and it is a total mess. TOTAL MESS. Currently I’m trying to find out why some of my children qualified for coverage in April, and some did not.
Monday I was on hold for 108 minutes just to get to the operator so I could leave a voice mail. I never heard back. Friday, I was only on hold for 18 minutes, but I can’t leave any more voicemails because the mailbox is full. So I left a voicemail for someone else. I’m not holding my breath on a call back for that, either.

This really stinks because I have to get the coverages worked out before I can get the neurologist stuff worked out. The first neuro appt. I could get was in June. (I have to drive an hour to a different town for it, too.) I don’t want it to cancel because Medicaid is messed up, but I have to have the Medicaid coverage in case of tests (which I’m pretty sure will be needed; at least an MRI with contrast seems to be the standard diagnostic and we’ve only had one without contrast.)

We are going to do a science fair! I have no idea what we’re doing. Thoughts, resources, ideas? Thanks. (grades K, 2, 3, and 4.)

Interesting read on “The Consequences of Admitting the Abortion/Breast Cancer Link“. Also, why I don’t support the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Their ties to Planned Parenthood – and organization that aids and abets child molestors, lies to women, and skirts the law – seemingly run deep. There are other charities and research foundations that don’t have those ties that I can support.

Baby A is walking, and it didn’t take her long to learn to run. She’s a speedy little thing! Her favorite thing to do is to run up and down the sidewalk. She’s also finally steady enough to toddle about the house clutching her dolly or GloWorm. I love that stage!
She’s also an experienced climber. She was scaling the stairs at 6 months. Her latest favorite thing to do is climb up on the stool and watch me in the kitchen. It’s her throne.

I’ve mentioned this article to more than one person in the last couple of months. The Future of E-Readers. Exciting stuff! I haven’t bought an e-reader, but when it evolves into this, I will! (And it will do all these things, and more, I’m sure.)

Have you ever been stalked by something? In my case, it’s a story. I read pieces of it a while ago. Then I thought of it again when my sister asked me what the creepiest thing I’d ever read was. Later, I was reading up on what creeped Stephen King out, and there was the story again on list after list of writer’s best horror stories ever. I pulled it up on the computer, but didn’t have time to read it so it just sat in an open window all day until I bookmarked it for that mystical time when I’ll be able to read an intense short story. Like, 13 years from now.
At bedtime, I pulled out a new library book – American Fantastic Tales: Terror and the Uncanny from 1940 Until Now - and guess which story is included?
It’s haunting me. And it IS one of the more disturbing shorts I’ve ever read, and it IS very well done.

I know, it’s 7 Quick Takes. I just wanted to add that I read uncanny/dark fantasy/horror because it’s the only genre that I find encouraging. I mean, I might have to wash poop out of underwear, but at least my washing machine’s not possessed.
Also, I love fantasy but I cannot take one single more book where the farmboy (or variation) finds out he’s a foundling and has some mysterious destiny to save the world. With a quirky cast of one-dimensional sidekicks, including a girl who doesn’t like skirts and/or is really good at being a boy.
For more quick takes, head over to Jen’s!

I am convinced there are little girls out there that like frilly dresses and tea parties and playing with dolls who think there is something wrong with them, because in just about everything modern (especially in public schools) little girls like pants and sports and are no different from little boys.
You mean to tell me only SOME of your children are covered by Medicaid? WTF? Did they get little jobs that pay too much so now they don’t qualify? StOOpidest thing I have ever heard of.
I saw an interesting Science experiment years ago when I was in school about how different liquids effect pennies over different amounts of time. They used water, coke, bleach and I don’t remember what else. That’s the only idea I can think of right now because I am not too creative.
I can’t say anything about Susan G Komen or planned parenthood because I don’t know the sotry on that.
I don’t want an E reader and don’t think I ever will. I like the old fashioned feel of a real book. Even if you are traveling 2 or 3 books don’t really weigh down a suitcase that much. I am staying low tech with my reading.
Ok, you told the book but what is the story that is stalking you?
I use to be fascinated with everything that IS Stephen King. I have purchased and owned every single book he has ever written as himself and as other ppl, but I have recently (6 months ago) parted ways with my entire Stephen King collection and donated them ALL to the local public library. They just took up way too much book shelf space and I knew I would never read them again. Our public library can use all the help it can get so I am sure generations to come will get good use out of my books.
I have now moved onto my fascination with real crime book, mostly by Ann Rule. Telling the true to life tales of murders and serial killers. I am addicted to serial killers. My husband said he thinks I am trying to learn how to be one.
Always love you posts! BAI
OH EM Gee I just realized I posted a MY GAWD long post in your comments, sorry! LOL
Ha ha, Peggy, I do that too. No worries about comment length, I luurrrvve me some comment love.
::smacks head:: I DID forget the story. It’s by Harlan Ellison: I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream.
An excerpt:
Something moving toward us in the darkness. Huge, shambling, hairy, moist, it came toward us. We couldn’t even see it, but there was the ponderous impression of bulk, heaving itself toward us. Great weight was coming at us, out of the darkness, and it was more a sense of pressure, of air forcing itself into a limited space, expanding the invisible walls of a sphere. Benny began to whimper. Nimdok’s lower lip trembled and he bit it hard, trying to stop it. Ellen slid across the metal floor to Gorrister and huddled into him. There was the smell of matted, wet fur in the cavern. There was the smell of charred wood. There was the smell of dusty velvet. There was the smell of rotting orchids. There was the smell of sour milk. There was the smell of sulphur, of rancid butter, of oil slick, of grease, of chalk dust, of human scalps.
And, uh, obviously this story is for adults.
ETA: This is not necessarily a recommendation. As I said, it’s one of the creepiest things I’ve ever read, so I guess that would be an anti-reading recommendation!
oh that penny thing was probably vinegar-it totally removes all the grime and makes it super shiny. my aunt kerin taght me that. actually she used ketchup.
I have several friends who are breast cancer survivors and it is hard to avoid giving to Susan G. Komen because that is the main fundraising arm etc. I do avoid it like the plauge but it is hard to explain.
I LOVE my ereader. I have a Barnes and Noble Nook and I never travel without it. I can put library books on it and there is a unending wealth of free books to read. Love, love, love it.
I don’t have an ereader yet, however I do enjoy downloading books and subscribing to magazines through the Kindle Web Reader and Zinio Digital Mag Subscriber. Word of caution though, back up everything you download onto a second separate hardrive so when you computers breaks down, you can re-load them onto your computer.
Aaaawwww! My goddaughter is the cutest thing ever! Except for Nora of course…
