Washing Machine Woes

in Glamour of a SAHMer

We bought a front loading washing machine a few months ago, and ever since then I’ve had a jug of laundry detergent sitting in my laundry room, mocking me with it’s sudsy, not for HE machine bubbles.  So I Googled, because really, what else are you going to do when cleaning products taunt you? I think I’ll just clean the carpet with it.  And I mean that in a literal way, not a gonna-mop-the-floor-with-yo’-momma kind of way.  I don’t do trash talking.  I’m way to socially awkward for that.

I didn’t find out how to adulterate the detergent so it won’t scare my washer, but I did find out that I’m supposed to be checking and fishing junk out of the rubber gasket of the door seal.  Who knew?

So I checked it. For the first time in many, many months.  It wasn’t pretty, y’all.  That gasket thingy?  It’s like a lint trap.  And apparently our family is walking wounded, because we all have bandaids stuck to our clothes.  And our ears are dirty, because all the q-tips are stuck to the washing machine.

That’s the glamour of a stay-at-home mom.

What wild and woolly, wacky and weird, or just plain gross thing did you do this week?  Post your Glamour of a SAHMer (actually, all bloggers are welcome, not just SAHMs), link back to this post, then post your link below.  Let’s commiserate, ladies (and gents!)

Sugar. Everywhere Sugar. Sugar on the floor and in the cabinet and the counter and mostly forming a sandy crust on my two year old. I guess Im gonna have to move it to a different cabinet because shes decorating the house with it. and its not something you can just sweep away. it stays sticky if ya just sweep. gotta wipe and mop it away. Everytime I turn around that girl is sprinkling herself with it. oh and did I mention that the flour is kept in the same cabinet?? guess what happens when sugar flour and mop water do when combined? floor glue. sticky feet and cans stuck to the bottom of the cabinet.

Vacuuming sugar and flour works better than sweeping. But your right about having to mop! Allie did this yesterday. Climbed up on the counter (at 14 months, no less) and literally got caught with her hand in the sugar jar, eating it by the fistful. She was so startled when she got caught she dropped the jar – one of those square class cracker jars – and it shattered on the floor.

Ha! I found a few of those, too! And an army man with no head, hair, and twelve cents. Also some little metal things my husband uses for work.

Guess what my two year old was doing when I was typing that comment? climbing up onto the counter and getting into the sugar which I *thought* was out of the danger zone.

The little metal “things” are called ferrules for tube fittings. Just in case someone wanted to know. ;-)
