Yes, a day late and a dollar short. Actually, several dollars short. I came in way under budget this week, but I’m sure I’ll make up for it next week. We’re already on our last gallon of milk.
I shopped at HEB this week and did some stocking up for our emergency kit. HEB had several shelf stable staples (say that three times fast!) on sale, including Bear Creek Soups, which are dehydrated pouches that only need hot water. There’s one flavor that is MSG and dye-free, so that’s what we got!
Total spent: $148. I have $52 from this week and $9 from previous weeks to roll over.

I’m a big fan of broccoli cheese soup. Also baked potato soup. Both of which sound nummy for this week, what with the awesome fall’ish weather…
Thanks to Mary Alice, I am a huge fan of potato and leek soup. We had soup and paninis, it was delish
I like to make soup of whatever is in the garden at the time. But, my all time favorite is “Chicken Corn Soup” Once the soup is cooked, you can debone the chicken and it stretches forever. I can get several meals out of this one. http://frazzledmomparty.blogspot.com/2008/09/cooking-cheap-like-cajun.html
http://www.food.com/recipe/olive-garden-copycat-zuppa-toscana-38298 is delish! I use a ground turkey that is more fennel-ly, plus I add fennel, mushrooms and red pepper flakes. And, I double the cream! All family members love!
I love white bean chili with chicken. Regular chili gives me heartburn but this is perfect. There are recipes on the bean cans and the internet.
