Kids in Church

Baby A was baptized on Aug. 30, and this time around the ceremony was really, really long. Unfortunately, by the time it was over I forgot to get a picture of A’s gorgeous baptism gown! Her godmother made it for her and it is heirloom quality.
Baby A’s godparents live in Colorado, so some friends from church filled in for them. Here’s Miss E being weird.

The kids got a little restless.

Look closely. The children are actually sitting in a different pew at this point. Mr P is well versed in how to act up in church. He was perfectly silent so his dad wouldn’t turn around and catch him.

Mr S had a bloody nose on the way to church. Lovely shirt for baptism pics.

It’s just from the heat ( our van doesn’t have AC). Pay no attention to the boy standing in front of the altar picking his nose.
Going to Mass with 8 children is always an adventure. Someone, somewhere is always out of sorts, disheveled, or pushing his or her limits.
Miss C
Miss C learned the word “drowsy” yesterday. She’s used it in every single sentence ever since.
Mr X
X has discovered Brown Bear, Brown Bear. He’s even been sleeping with the book at night. I’m glad we have a sturdy board book version! Do I get extra mommy-points for having the book memorized so I can “read” it from across the room?
Baby A
Alli had her appointment with the nephrologist/hypertension specialist. When they test infants with hypertension, they usually take a pressure in each arm and each leg. Only one pressure was high, so the nephrologist gave her a clean bill of health. He said that if she had any of the serious conditions that cause high blood pressure in infants her pressures would always be high, and would never be normal. That, coupled with normal chest x-ray, normal kidney ultrasound, normal urinalysis, normal blood work, and the fact she’s a happy fat baby means she doesn’t have to go back but can just have her pressure monitored by her pediatrician.

Yep. Children sure can make church more interesting.
Congratulations! It’s quite a challenge just getting children dickied up for mass on Sunday.
I find ‘do’s’ like this quite daunting.
Just curious, but are you finding choosing Godparents more challenging now? Just wondering if you start ‘running out’ of suitable options at some point.
We use the older siblings now!
Some of our children have the same godparents. My two oldest boys, for example, have my parents as their godparents; my sister is the Godmother of two of my children, my brother is the Godfather of two other children. In fact, only one of my children has a Godparent who is not also related to us!
Congratulations to you all and Baby A in particular!
Ew. I thought that the boy picking his nose was praying.
Hahaha… love your updates. Glad baby A is okay! And I thought I was busy with FOUR in Mass… can’t imagine 8, but I may be there one day myself.
My daughter (similar age to Mr X) goes to bed with books too. They are more important than the cuddly toys these days.
I have all of our Eric Carlyle books memorized, too!
Your kids are adorable as always
Hannah loves books right now too. Her favorite new word is “sit” so she will bring me books all day long and ask to sit (in my lap) so I can read to her… She wouldn’t be into the across the room business, and she isn’t consistent about her page turning so I would need the pictures anyway to see where she was… but I have a few books memorized, too, so I’ll take some mommy points too
It’s amazing how hard a one-year-old can be on even board books. Hannah is often trying to close them the wrong way so they end up with bent covers.
I want to figure out how to make my own out of cardboard boxes, so that I can make them with our pictures, or with words I know she knows, or with scripture–the amount I read to her, I figure, that would mean I’d actually get some Bible reading in.
I’ve never tried to make my own books from cardboard, but I have made drool proof church books. Get one of those personal sized photo albums (the dollar store usually carries them) that allows you to slip pictures into pockets, and fill it with pictures, stories, Scripture readings, etc!
