Hot Wheels has a new toy out, the Double Dare Snare. They offered me the opportunity to invite some of Mr X’s friends over to try it out. Play date? New toys? I’m so in. (PS- order from the Mattel shop, get a free gift. Free toys? Yeah, count me in for that too!)
My friend Kristin brought her son over, and we tossed a few extra boys into the mix, too. Yeppers, 17 kids at my house (which actually, isn’t all that unusual- but 11 boys, age 3 -16 makes for a very LOUD party! Plus 6 girls.)
The Double Dare Snare has two tracks that come together in one loop-de-loop, then there is a snare hanging from a crane that traps the first car to hit it, so you know who the winner is.
I halfway put it together, then threw my hands up in the air and handed it over to the boys. The 16 year old had it together in a snap, no instructions needed.
So we played and we looped
and we played some more.
We found that taking the extra ‘acceleration’ track out made it work better. Gave that snap a little more power. X ended up playing with the track during the whole party, then he played with it for another hour straight after everyone left.
Even though it was just a “play date”, I thought making an event out of it might be fun. So we had a dye free Race Car party for the 3-5 year olds. We are a dye-free house and Kristin is trying Feingold out.
I laid out black square plates and white napkins in a checkered flag pattern, and to drink? V8 of course! And “antifreeze”- limeade, in this case but any greenish juice would be fine.
I piled chocolate covered mini donuts into a bowl for “spare tires”

{please be safe, make sure kids know not to go near *actual* antifreeze, and always keep THAT stuff out of their reach!}
I also laid out “dip sticks” in bowls to resemble a stop light (red pepper strips, green celery, and yellow corn Chex because the kids ate my yellow peppers before the party!) You could also use yellow tomatoes, or even red, green and yellow apple slices with caramel dip.
I made up a little goody bag of treats. Because we’re dye free, I stayed away from candy and temporary tattoos and filled it with silly string (my friends will LOVE me for that!), some fun little frogs, Glow Stick bracelets, and of course Hot Wheels! I found everything at Dollar Tree- super budget friendly. Yes, those packaged cookies are dye free and come in a 10 pack at Dollar Tree! Love those things.
We love to watch Team Hot Wheels online, and since I have a new Smart TV that lets you play YouTubes, I made a Cars! play list just for the party. Plenty of Team Hot Wheels, plus other car themed videos and some fun five year old pleasing songs to break it up. That epic Hot Wheels ramp is amazing!
Team Hot Wheels is going to do a LIVE version of the Double Dare Snare on Saturday, June 30 at the X Games Los Angeles (watch it on ABC at 1:20pm Central). Here’s a sneak peek:
Note to self- do not allow ANY of my children to become drivers for Team Hot Wheels. Now THOSE people are risk takers!
Hot Wheels not only gave my son a Double Dare Snare, they want to give one to my readers, too! (Come on, you knew it was coming, amirite?)
