When Homeschooling Isn’t Working »

This post is difficult to write.  The negatives of homeschooling are rarely discussed among homeschoolers.  There are so many attacks from so many angles without homeschool moms giving opponents fodder.  Those of you who would crow triumphantly “See!  I told you!”, this post is not for you.  Homeschool mamas wondering why your school day isn’t [...]

Mama Says Randomness Roundup »

If your son doesn’t like spelling and really struggles with a particular word, make that word the password for the computer.  He’ll memorize it in no time flat.

I like to make a fruit platter for Christmas morning.  Easy and make ahead.  And we always have star fruit (carambola).  So festive!

We bought our tires at PepBoys, [...]

1.
Beautiful babies ~ My little niece Nora was welcomed into the Church last Sunday.
2.
I am naive, I suppose.  I never knew that our weapons used depleted uranium (nuclear weapons, sure, but not ground artillery).  After the battle for Falluja, in Iraq, that uranium has contaminated the area.  The Houston Chronicle last Sunday reported that 24% [...]

Obama in our schools »

I have a new article up on my Examiner site.  Obama’s talking about having school on weekends and throughout summer, as well as extending school hours each day.
Perhaps the children need a union, demanding a 40 hour education week, along with 15 minute breaks to spend outside playing.
Call me crazy, but I don’t think more [...]

I’m sure you’ve all seen the Obama rap that public school children performed last spring.

Here are the lyrics.  Note:  the principal says this was for Black History Month – [...]

Constitution Day »

I have a list of Constitution Day activities up on my Examiner.com site.  There are a couple of interesting ones – like dramatic readings of George Washington’s writings on Sept. 17, 1787 and a copy of the Naturalization exam.  It’s a good thing the exam is a study one, with answers printed!  Would you pass?

7 Quick Takes: No politics this week! »

1.
Free museum day in Houston tomorrow!  The shuttle will be running free of charge and the Museum District is free, free, free!
2.
9/11.  Remembering the thousands that were killed by terrorists that day.  On that day I had a 3 year old, 2 year old, and an 8 month old.  What I remember -not knowing what [...]

No time for a real post right now, but here are some articles on homeschooling I’ve written that might be useful.

New article on my Examiner site – with links to homeschool info.
Meteor Shower Tonight
Aug. 11 and 12 are great nights for viewing, because the Perseids are at their peak and it’s a new moon.  However, the meteors will be showing all this week and the next.
