Bye Bye Kidvantage

You guys know how much I like Sear’s warranty on kids clothes.  I buy almost all the boy’s clothes there just because of their Kidvantage program.

Well, they’re discontinuing it.  As of June 1, Kidvantage is cancelled.  Sears will still honor Kidvantage purchases made before that, if you keep your receipt but from now on if your kids bust a hole in their pants, you’re SOL.

Looks like it’s back to the Carter’s outlet for me, but I’m not sure about the big boys.

Where can you get durable, affordable clothes for teens and tweens?

I love comments. Tell me what you think!

I generally get everything for the boys at Kohl’s. There’s almost always a sale going on and I can find something for everyone.

I never knew about that warranty! Think of all of the missed shopping opportunities!

I can’t think of anyone else who offers a similar guarantee as well as being affordable – pretty sure Land’s End and LL Bean have warranties like that, but you pay for it in the higher cost of their products. Of course, they also tend to be of higher quality.

I thought my son was tough on jeans until I saw that earlier post you’d linked to!

Gymboree used to have TERRIFIC sales, and now – not so much, although I still watch their clearance section online and grab good deals when I can. They’re better for inexpensive girls’ clothes than boys’ clothes, in my opinion, but I’ve gotten my son some jeans for $10 before.

I don’t buy my kids new clothes at all, except for footwear and outerwear. The Sears prices are way too high for me to consider, even if the items are replaced a couple of times. I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $4 a pair of jeans and I usually keep it between $2-$3.00. It was easier to pay $1 when they were younger but I’ve not gotten a deal like that in a few years.

garage sales!! That is where I buy just about everything and we can usually buy name brand stuff that lasts through several kids, which makes it all the better when you only spend a quarter on it in the first place!

Hi! I just found your blog via a Pinterest pin. I am a fellow Catholic mom and I am glad I found you! My two youngest boys wear almost the same size clothes and a lady from church passed down a bunch of J. Crew brand clothes to us. I like to buy second hand when possible but with boys it is really hard, TJ Maxx sometimes has good deals and Ross, too. I don’t have a Sears nearby but that waranty sounds great. Too bad they are stopping it…

I’m really disappointed about this. Guess I need to get more than one pair of pants over there before the end of the month (I lost the receipt so I guess they won’t honor it for me after June 1). I only shopped for clothes at Sears because of Kidvantage, but I inevitably bought clothes other than pants, so it was good for them even with the occasional Dockers swap. Sorry to see it go.

I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $4 for a pair of pants, I hit Goodwill and Salvation Army. I even find new stuff with the tags still on sometimes. THe downside is that the kids think that walking in the door means that they can go home with a “new” stuffed animal or toy. I have $30 worth of credit at Sears but I wanted short sleeved dress shirts for my 13 year old son for school- they don’t sell them! I guess the idea that kids should wear nice clothes on occassion doesn’t compute.

bye bye sears for me. I did not know the program ended until I went to return my son’s shoes today (bottom heel worn out with holes in the bottom). I was relieved to hear they would honor purchases made before 6/1. VERY dismayed when they wouldn’t give me my receipt back … now stating that even though I purchased them before 6/1/12, only ONE replacement will be allow. This is NOT honoring the previous kidvantage program. BAD BUSINESS!

Have you tried Penney’s? They have good quality clothing at reasonable prices if you are buying new.

I love Penney’s new look and new pricing. I’m out of the habit of shopping at other stores but since pretty much the ONLY reason I shopped Sears was for the Kidvantage, I’m going to have to branch out. Our Sears smells funny and it’s nigh impossible to find anyone to help you. They also don’t train their staff consistently so you get conflicting info. The only other reason we shopped Sears was for the warranty on Craftsman tools, but they stopped carrying it on the tools Tom uses (and that get broken) most often so, yeah.
