    Spoiled

This is how I spend at least an hour each day.  Baby J nurses then falls asleep. If I put her down, she instantly wakes up.  She pretty much only naps if she's snuggled up, safe and warm, with someone who loves her. Spoiled?  Yes. Yes, I am. But when you get ...

Taking Family Portraits

The kids were all clean at the same time.  They were dressed in coordinating outfits for Easter.  It was a bright day with a few clouds, so the light was good.

Time to take a family picture!

It’s like herding cats, y’all.

I just love your comparison to herding kittens. I always describe trying to get a large group of kids to do the same thing in those terms. I have given up on standard photos for my kids and try to just capture the moment. It seems to be less stressful for all, but especially me as I let go of those expectations. You know the one where you expect kids to cooperate and be still and smile at the same time. Easter Blessings to you and your family.

Loved this post! Cute kids.
We really did end up using photo shop for the family photo two years ago. I’m now married with a kiddo of my own but I’m also the oldest of seven kids with many still living at home and everyone within a few miles; my mom still does an annual family photo for her Christmas card. Now that involves two (grand)parents, eight in my generation (including my hubby), plus my two year old. We chose the photo in which the majority of people looked presentable and then pasted good looking faces onto the others. It turned out AMAZING. It was the best family photo we’ve ever done. ;-) And the boys were thrilled we could use technology to fool the relatives. There was so much excitement over it that last year everyone cooperated in the hopes of having their face used…and we didn’t have to photo shop it (though it honestly wasn’t quite as stellar a picture since we didn’t get the chance to pick everyone’s best look).
Glad I found your blog!

My father loves to take portraits. He always wants to line everyone up and take a picture. But, he always seems to forget how frustrating this can be. It sounds so simple, but few things are more difficult. I like your candid shots–esp. with the labels!
