Avengers Assemble! Family Movie Night and Pizza Party

My husband is a comic book geek.  Seriously. He used to own a comic book shop and he’s infected the children so now I have a house full of geeklings.

So you know we owned The Avengers the day it was available for sale.

It’s actually kind of fun to watch the movie with him, because he gives me the backstory on all the characters, people in the background, and possible future plots.  It’s like having my own audio PopUp Video.

Recently Flatouts asked me to use their new Flatouts Thin Crust Flatbreads Artisan Pizza to have a family movie night and of course I said yes. Because the only better than watching the Avengers with the geeklings is watching it while eating pizza!

Flatouts Artisan Pizza are super easy.  You put them on a baking sheet, bake for 4 minutes, top them, and bake for another 4 minutes.  Boom. Pizza in less time than it takes to hunt down the sales flyer to order out, and much cheaper, too.  (Flatouts retail at Walmart for $2.98/6 pack)

I live in the South where we are still running the AC. How much do I appreciate being able to make pizza but only having to have the oven at 350 for less than 10 minutes? These would make a super quick homeschool lunch, too.

So, back to the Avengers.

I might be a bit of a Marvel geek, too.  Can’t help it!  Naturally, I thought of some cute pizza ideas:

Hulk Pizza, using Spinach Pesto with pumpkin seeds.  Olives are the hair, the mouth is half a pepperoni slice.  This one is made on the Heritage Wheat flavor.

Captain America shield on Spicy Italian Thin Crust Flatbread.  I used mozzarella, pizza sauce, and olives to form the design.  Watch out! Flatouts are made with real ingredients and there are real crushed red pepper flakes baked right into the Spicy Italian.

A mini cookie cutter makes the characteristic star. Yum!

Then I decided to get more creative.  Shawarma pizza! (You have watched the Avengers ALL THE WAY to the end, right?  After the movie credits?  If not, you must start watching any of Joss Whedon’s Marvel movies all the way through, he always puts a secret scene at the end that introduces the next movie.)

Yes! Shawarma pizza.  Schawarma is kind of an Middle Eastern taco.  Grilled meat (often chicken), a tangy yogurt sauce, chopped veggies. Often it’s served with pickled turnips, but I was fresh out of those so I made a chopped salad of tomatoes and cucumbers.

Bake the flatbread for 4 minutes, then top with yogurt sauce.  For the sauce, I mixed plain yogurt, a little lemon juice, salt, freshly cracked black pepper, and garlic.

Top with veggies and cooked meat.  I simply used roast beef from the deli, which makes this a 5 minute meal.

We’ve already watched Marvel’s The Avengers
(and Thor, and Iron Man, and Iron Man 2…) enough that the kids can quote from the movie, and we love pizza night. Fridays are our family fun night and the pizzas come together fast, which is an easy dinner after a long week.

The Captain America pizzas were the biggest hit with the younger kids.  They were just tickled to see a real life object recreated in food.

More ideas for a fun kid’s Avenger party:

Nerf War.  Go all out with Black Widow pistols against Hawkeye Crossbow toys.

Hulk out and break down a cardboard brick wall.  These are so fun to build with and even more fun to knock down while growling.

Grab some Avengers Masks, they are so cheap right now since it’s costume season.
