Guess what? They found lead in children’s juice and fruit products. I heard it on NPR but haven’t seen the story anywhere else. Even more disturbing is that there are several brands of ORGANIC juices and fruit products that were found to have more than .5 mcg per serving – PER SERVING. Imagine if you pack apple juice and a fruit cup for lunch and then have an after school snack of grape juice and pears. See the list of contaminated products here.

And if that’s not bad enough, check your sunscreen. If it contains retinol, they might actually accelerate skin cancer, and oxybenzone is a hormone disrupter.
Holy cow, it’s like we’re living in some kind of dystopian apocalyptic future where everything will poison us!

I bought a new mouse for my laptop, but WalMart was out of the normal corded ones and I know that a cordless mouse will last 3.5 seconds around here before someone runs off with it. So I bought this:
The cord is retractable and it drives me nuts. I’m always tugging it or accidentally having the cord snap the mouse out of my hand as it automatically retracts. And it’s pink. I have a personal deep and abiding hatred for pink technology. Totally irrational, I know.

Union bullying marine into paying $500. Note: the Marine does not benefit from the teacher’s union and is paid by the military. By all accounts, he’s an exemplary teacher. Why should he have to pay $500 to NOT join the union?

Hey Harris County residents, I found out that you can swim for free at community rec centers! Just call ahead and ask about their policies and hours. At Mary Jo Peckham park, you have to call the day before to sign up for free swimming. The centers also have lots of entertainment, including dance lessons (free), ceramics projects (free), card games and dominioes (find others to play with – free!)

Went to the WIC clinic this week and the nutritionist told me that I must wean Baby A because my milk isn’t good for her anymore. No, I’m not on any prescription drugs. I didn’t laugh in her face, go me!

Interesting. I wonder if La Leche League knows that women who use WIC are told to stop breastfeeding.
Definitely call the woman’s supervisor. If you want to go up the chain, call me. I know the supervisor at my office in Pasadena.
Craziness.
LLL knows, trust me.
At my son’s 15 mo. visit, the ped insisted that ds still nursing twice a day was obviously interfering with his weight gain because he was so full from the nursing that he wasn’t hungry for meals. Now, I’m only 5’2″ myself, and none of my 3 other children is over the 50th percentile. We just aren’t big people.
Anyway, she finally moved on to other parts of our diet. It is unacceptable that we are using 2% milk with this son, because he really needs the extra fat from whole milk. Umm, okay . . .
