I feel your pain about the meat. We are practically a vegetarian family because of the low/cruel standards the meat industry in general has. I will buy meat at Whole Foods on occasion when we can afford it. But, with my husband unemployed and me only able to find part time work, expensive meat has not been in the budget for a while. But, I did take advantage of a promotion that my local bank was doing. They were offering $75 to new account customers who used their debit card. So, I went to Whole Foods, bought exactly $75 of chicken, turkey and ground beef and the bank reimbursed it. $75 of free meat! I'm going to try to make it last as long as possible.
Good luck! I love your blog!

In TN it is duck season. If it is in texas you should call some small outdoor shops or gun shops (places were hunters hang out) or an ad in the paper may work, lots of hunters are in it for the sport only and dont eat the meat. and even if they do eat it, if there frezer is full they give the meat away. you may get lucky. People here do the same thing with deer meat.

I am glad to be to stop by again. The rice thing was hilarious.

My husband just recieved about 20 wild ducks from a friend. The first round was too spicy for the kids. Next round will just be cream of mushroom soup from a can.

Yeah, but we have ham often, because it's so cheap. Once or twice a month in winter, at least! Although, a special honey or brown sugar spiral sliced ham... yum!
