Food Stamp Challenge week 28

The mechanic reports that we should have our car back by the end of the week, but frankly, I’m not holding my breath.  My sister kindly took  me to HEB and WalMart this week, where I spent way too much on school supplies!  I’ve had to pay more for some items (like bread) than I’m used to, but still managed to stay in budget.

We spent $121.87

That is, we spent $121 on food – and another $80 on miscellaneous household items…

We got:

9# apples, 7 bananas, 15 peaches, 10 oranges, 1 watermelon, 5# onions, 13# frozen veggies, 4 dried chiles, small nub of ginger, 10# potatoes, 2.3# tomatoes

3 gallons milk, 4 dozen eggs, 1# sharp cheddar, 12# boneless, skinless chicken breast

2 boxes generic Cheerios, 40 flour tortillas, 3 boxes whole wheat pasta, 6# brown rice, 3# black beans, 5 loaves whole wheat bread, 16 hamburger buns, 84 oz. oatmeal

1 bag generic Doritos, 1.5 qts. ice cream, 24 oz. jar salsa, 16 oz. pouch salsa, vinegar: red wine, apple cider, and balsamic, 4 jars peanut butter, 39 oz. coffee, 20 ct. berry tea bags

We’re eating:

Sat. July 11: Bean burritos, corn salsa

Sun. July 12: Chicken peanut stir fry

Mon. July 13: Curried chickpeas and barley, sauteed chard
